Riverbend Readers: Our Bookclub
Riverbend Readers is our bookclub, formed to bring together people who love books
and reading
Registrations have closed for 2011 as we have reached our capacity. If you would
like to go onto the waitlist for 2012 then please email your name and contact details
to bookclub@riverbendbooks.com.au.
In the meantime here's some information about how bookclub runs.
How does bookclub run?
At the moment we run six bookclub sessions. If you are a member of bookclub you
turn up to the same session each month.
2011 bookclub sessions for current members are:
- Wednesday 9.30 - 10.30am
- Wednesday 3.30 - 4.30pm
- Wednesday 6 - 7pm
- Wednesday 7.30 - 8.30pm
- Thursday 6 - 7pm
- Thursday 7.30 - 8.30pm
2011 bookclub dates - in each pair the Wednesday date is first, the Thursday second:
- February 9 (Wednesday) & 10 (Thursday)
- March 9 & 10
- April 13 & 14
- June 8 & 9
- July 13 & 14
- August 10 & 11
- September 14 & 15
- October 12 & 13
- November 9 & 10
Each session is facilitated by a member of the Riverbend staff who provides a list
of discussion questions and starts the ball rolling. During our hour-long discussion
there is a chance for anyone who would like to say something or participate in the
debate to do so, though there is no obligation or pressure to talk to the table
if that is not your wish. Bookclub is a forum for discussion and it is essential
that all members respect others points of view.
How much does Bookclub cost?
We charge a set amount for the year (2010 cost $100) which covers facilitation and
catering, and must be paid in full at the start of the year to secure your membership.
This allows us to provide coffee and selection of cakes for the daytime bookclubs,
or a glass of wine and canapés for nighttime bookclubs.
We also require that you purchase each month's bookclub title at Riverbend (for
which we give you a 10% discount). At each bookclub meeting you will be able to
purchase the following month's title.
Who chooses the Bookclub books?
Each month we will offer bookclub members a choice of two books, one of which will
be chosen by members as the bookclub title. We do this by sending out an email to
our bookclubbers with an option to vote for the next month’s book. The vote is taken
across all bookclub groups and the one with the most votes overall is the book we
read the following month.
