There has been a lot of hype surrounding The Passage, which looks to be the first of a trilogy. The film rights have for this book have already been sold to Ridley Scott. I can't speak for the entire book as I have only read 200 pages of this nearly 800 page tome, but it is shaping up to be a very impressive debut. A young woman who finds herself in increasingly desperate situations, the latest of which results in a death, leaves her only daughter Amy with a convent before disappearing. The nuns are only too happy to look after Amy while they figure out what to do with her, but it appears there is something strange about the girl. And why would the F.B.I want her for secret experiments that are taking place at an isolated location? Part sci-fi, part horror, Justin Cronin's epic story is an engrossing and exhilarating tale that will keep you up reading into the night.
