Description

Antoinette Conway, the tough, abrasive detective from The Secret Place, is still on the Murder squad, but only just. She's partnered up with Stephen Moran now, and that's going well - but the rest of her working life isn't. Antoinette doesn't play well with others, and there's a vicious running campaign in the squad to get rid of her. She and Stephen pull a case that at first looks like a slam-dunk lovers' tiff, but gradually they realise there's more going on: someone on their own squad is trying to push them towards the obvious solution, away from nagging questions. They have to work out whether this is just an escalation in the drive to get rid of her - or whether there's something deeper and darker going on.

Reviews

Praise for THE SECRET PLACE: Tana French is now the undisputed queen of Irish crime fiction ... her books transcend genre. Her prose is "literary fiction", her plots are intricate, her characters and dialogue compellingly real. Sunday Independent Thrillers are a dime a dozen. The trick is to find something that actually sticks to the ribs. This fall will bring a new release from one of the best crime writers working today, Tana French. But that book, The Trespasser, is actually her sixth. She has five novels you can buy right now, though you should read them in the order in which they were published, starting with In the Woods. I can do you no greater favour in life than recommending that you read her books. Guardian.com The new Tartt - the thriller that's every bit as good as The Secret History ... Classic in the making Sunday Times Tana French is one of today's most exciting crime novelists Mail on Sunday Exquisitely crafted and utterly absorbing HEAT French's prose glitters, creating a gripping mystery set in a world of shadows and tension Sunday Mirror Brilliantly characterised and atmospheric chiller Metro Whenever someone asks me to name today's top suspense novelists, my short list always includes Tana French. French is such a gorgeous writer: She's a poet of mood and a master builder of plots that are positively Piranesi-like in their ingeniousness. Washington Post Her Dublin Murder Squad series brilliantly anatomises modern Ireland and its uneasy relationship between past and present. The Guardian
