Tropical regions aren't all palm-fringed beaches: they span some of what we think of as Australia's drier regions, proving that they are so much more than 'lush and warm.' Renowned photographer Nick Rains puts the rich diversity of Australia's tropics on spectacular display in this collection of photographs. Lens by lens, click by click, the photographs in Tropical Australia encourage us to get out and explore the vast and beautiful scenery of Australia's tropical places, from the glistening coastlines and forests of Queensland to the wet-season waters of the Kimberley in Western Australia.
Nick Rains has been a professional photographer for over 30 years, starting off in the UK with sports and commercial work before moving to Australia in 1990. Since then he has specialised in travel and landscape work, crisscrossing the country on assignments for many large book and calendar publishers including Explore Australia, Penguin and Australian Geographic. Nick was named Australian Geographic's Photographer of the Year back in 2002, and in 2014 was awarded the Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP) Travel Photographer of the Year. Nick enjoys packing up his trusty 4WD and heading off into the wilderness for weeks at a time, driving tens of thousands of kilometres and camping out under the stars in a never-ending quest for the perfect light. This book is a distillation of the most photogenic parts of Australia's diverse tropical regions - places he hopes will inspire you as much as they did him.
